Description:

February 28, 2019: The Joussard Community Association has been granted $20,000 in funding from the Alberta Healthy Communities (AHC) Initiative, which aims to create safe, welcoming, and accessible walking trails, green spaces, and affordable food outlets in Alberta communities.

Within the next three years, the Joussard Community Association will plant fruit trees around the hamlet, build a community garden, and install benches and lighting along walking trails. The Association plans on organizing a committee that will work with them to research new ideas and initiatives, that will help create a more vibrant and healthier hamlet.

Richard Simard, Reeve of Big Lakes County and President of the Joussard Community Association said, “Our Association was very happy to hear that we received this grant since over 69 communities applied.

AHC believes when communities have walking paths, being physically active is easier. When quality, affordable food outlets are built close to where people live, it’s easier to eat nutritious food. When communities connect to address local issues, their members are empowered, effective solutions are created, and results achieved.

Our Association is looking forward to working together with the residents of Joussard to build a safer, healthier, and more active community.”
