August 6 @ 9 AM – The Boil Water Advisory for the Hamlet of Kinuso and areas west of the community has been lifted based on two sets of satisfactory water samples. (See attached map for details)

However, the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for the following areas:

• Range Road 93 to Range Road 102 South of Highway 2 and along Highway 33

• Range Road 94 to Range Road 100A North of Highway 2 and South of Swan River

August 2 @ 3:30 PM – We are pleased to inform you that the temporary water line has been installed successfully and water services have been restored to all residents served by the Kinuso Water Co-op. Residents may notice air coming out of their taps when the water first begins to flow. This is normal and will subside as the water continues to move through the lines.

Please be reminded that the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for the Hamlet of Kinuso and all other rural residents served by the Kinuso Water Co-op affected by the water outage. We are continuing to work with the Government of Alberta to test the water and are hopeful that the advisory may be lifted next week.

For boil water advisory safety tips we invite you to visit FAQ: How to use water safely during a boil water advisory | Alberta Health Services.

In the event that water is not flowing from your taps, please contact the office at 780-523-5955. For after-hours assistance, follow the prompts for a water emergency.

We sincerely thank our residents for their patience during this time. A big thank you also goes out to our dedicated utility crews who worked tirelessly through many different challenges to restore water services!

Our next update will be provided by 10 AM on August 6.

Wishing you a happy and safe long weekend!

_______

August 2 @ 10 AM – We have some important updates regarding the restoration of water services:

  • A valve was installed on the west side of the river and restored pressure to the residents south of Highway 2 and to the river, affecting approximately 25 connections. Please note, we have not yet flushed the lines in this area, and the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect.
  • The tie-in points on either side of the river have also been installed.
  • The County has received the permit from Alberta Transportation to mount a temporary line on the Highway 2 bridge. This work will commence, Friday, August 2, at 10 AM. We are optimistic that the work will be completed sometime today.

Once the line is mounted and connected to the tie-in points, all residents will have service.

After the temporary line is in place and all booster stations are back online, we will begin flushing out the rural system.

Regarding the Boil Water Advisory:

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this process. We will continue to keep you updated as we make progress.

The next update will be provided by 5 PM, August 2.

____________

August 1 @ 5 PM – Our crews have successfully completed installing the tie-in points on the existing waterline and the pipe to create the temporary water line has been delivered and is ready for installation.

Crews estimate that installation will begin at 10AM on August 2, and that water services are expected to be restored to residents served by the Kinuso Water Co-op by Friday, August 2, at 6 PM, barring any complications during the installation of the temporary water line.

As water services are restored, please be reminded that the Boil Water Advisory remains in effect. Water tests will continue to take place over the following few days to ensure the water is safe to consume. While we work with the Government of Alberta, our team is anticipating having the Boil Water Advisory lifted sometime next week. We will continue to inform our residents of this timeline as tests take place.

Note that water from the Kinuso Pumphouse and Spruce Point Park is not under a Boil Water Advisory.

The next update will be provided by 11AM, August 2.

________

July 31 @ 3PM – Our utility crews are working on a temporary solution to provide potable water to those affected by the Kinuso Water Co-op service interruption. We understand how challenging this situation has been for everyone affected. The break in the water line was located underwater, making it difficult for our crews to identify the problem until the flood waters receded.

With a viable temporary solution in place, we are working to restore services as soon as possible, however we do not yet have a timeline.

To support our residents while we work on restoring full water services, the County will be delivering 4L jugs of water to all residents who are without water on August 1. The water hose at the Kinuso Administration Office and the Kinuso Pumphouse continue to be available to residents.

We thank you again for your patience as we work to find solutions. The next update will be provided at 9AM, August 1.

____________

July 31 @ 9AM – Our utilities crew have located the break in the water line servicing the Kinuso Water Co-op. We have learned that the line has failed at the Swan River crossing due to significant bank erosion.

We understand how critical water services are to your daily lives, and we deeply empathize with the inconvenience this situation has caused. Our dedicated crews are working tirelessly to find temporary solutions to restore water services to residents as quickly as possible. Simultaneously, they are developing a remediation plan to repair the line and mitigate future disruptions.

Water hoses at the Kinuso pumphouse and water tank in front of the Kinuso Administration office continue to be available to residents.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We will continue to keep you informed with regular updates as the situation progresses. The next update will be at 3PM, July 31.

In the meantime, a water jug fill station has been set up in front of the Kinuso Administration Office and at the Kinuso Pumphouse. All truckfill stations are operational, including the Kinuso truckfill.

We understand that the boil water advisory was issued before water services were fully restored. This precautionary measure, in collaboration with Alberta Health Services (AHS), ensures that residents are aware and take necessary steps as water services become available in the area.

To our residents and users, we understand the inconvenience this outage has caused and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our crews who have been working tirelessly to restore services as quickly as possible!

Sunday, July 28 @ 9:30AM – Unfortunately, due to the extent of the water main break in the Kinuso area, service is not expected to be restored today. Note that the Kinuso truckfill is not operational at this time, however, we are pleased to confirm that all other County truckfills are operational. Additionally, the hose at the Kinuso pumphouse is still available for public use.

We understand the inconvenience this situation continues to cause and deeply appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thank you to our utilities crew for working diligently to resolve the issue and restore water service as promptly as possible!

Another update will be provided on July 29th at 9AM.

_________

July 27 @ 3:30PM – The Kinuso Pumphouse is currently out of service due to a water main break. As a result, water service is unavailable for the hamlet of Kinuso, Swan River First Nation, and the Kinuso Rural Coop, covering areas along Hwy 2, south from Range Road 104 to Prichuk Hill, and south along Hwy 33.

The areas north of the Hamlet of Kinuso and the Spruce Point Park region remain unaffected.

To assist residents, the County is providing free access to water via a hose at the Kinuso Pumphouse. Additionally, the Kinuso truckfill and all other County truckfills are operational.

Due to the complexity of the repair, we do not yet have a specific timeline for resolution. An update will be provided at 11 AM on July 28.

Our crews are working diligently to address the issue, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this matter as swiftly as possible.
