FireSmart™ Neighbourhood Champion

FireSmart™ Canada’s Neighbourhood Recognition Program (NRP) is a national initiative that officially recognizes neighbourhoods that take proactive steps to reduce their risk from wildland fire. The program encourages neighbours to work together to address fire hazards on their individual properties and in shared community spaces.

Each participating community will have a Neighbourhood Champion—a local volunteer who helps rally neighbours, coordinates activities, and acts as a key point of contact with a Big Lakes County FireSmart representative.

Spring is the ideal time for FireSmart activities—after the snow melts and before fire season begins. Neighbours are encouraged to work together to remove flammable vegetation and other hazards from their properties. This is a grassroots, homeowner-driven effort where homeowners help homeowners to build a safer, more fire-resilient neighbourhood. Interested in becoming a Neighbourhood Champion? Apply below!

Free FireSmart™ Advanced Home Assessments

How would you like a FireSmart Assessor to conduct an on-site assessment of your home, for free? A qualified team member will come to your home and provide a free assessment of your property and will prepare a report with tips for how to make your property more likely to survive a wildfire.

Our FireSmart experts will:

1.     Tour the outside of your house and yard for things that increase your risk during a wildfire.

2.     Provide a customized report based on what they see with actions on how to reduce the risk of damage by wildfire.

3.     Share helpful tips to make your home less susceptible against wildfires.
