Statement from Big Lakes County Council
Release of Crown Land Discussions on Hold
Big Lakes County Council wishes to extend a sincere apology regarding recent discussions about the potential release of Crown Land within the County. Letters of apology were also sent earlier this month to our neighbouring First Nations and Metis Settlements.
We want to acknowledge the hurt and frustration this has caused and how our actions may have given the impression that the County was attempting to move forward without collaboration or meaningful engagement. That was never Council’s intent. Our hope was to begin exploring opportunities to support regional growth together, with the voices of all communities shaping the path forward.
Please be advised that Council has placed these discussions on hold until we speak directly to our neighbouring First Nations, Metis Settlements, and regional stakeholders.
Moving forward, Big Lakes County remains committed to open communication and continued collaboration with all communities across the region.
