Big Lakes County, AB – The County is pleased to welcome the arrival of our new pumper-rescue truck, a key investment in our Fire Services fleet approved by Council in the 2022 budget. This vital addition highlights our commitment to enhancing public safety and improving emergency response capabilities.
The new truck is part of the County’s strategy to replace multiple aging units with a more versatile vehicle. This approach aims to reduce our dependence on numerous specialized units, save costs and increase our response capacity by incorporating multi-purpose capabilities. The pumper-rescue will be housed in the High Prairie Fire Hall to improve our ability to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively, specifically in the Banana Belt, Gillwood, Salt Prairie and Sunset House areas.
Reeve Tyler Airth expressed the Council’s satisfaction with this development, saying, “We are excited to see our continued commitment to community safety come to life with the arrival of this pumper-rescue. This investment is well aligned with our strategic plan, focusing on providing high-quality services for our residents while demonstrating fiscal responsibility for the long-term goals of the County. Our goal remains to make Big Lakes County a great place to live, and this new addition to our Fire Services fleet continues our commitment to that vision.”
Big Lakes County Fire Chief Jason Cottingham highlighted the significance of the new unit, stating “Big Lakes County Fire Services would like to welcome its newest fire truck to the fleet for the High Prairie District. The new pumper-rescue, manufactured by Acres Industries Inc, of Manitoba was delivered August 7th and was put into service the same day. The new fire truck replaces the old fire truck which has been in service for the last 24 years. The new truck will provide rescue services for both the County and Town. Big Lakes County Fire Service’s appreciates the support from the community and Council as we continue to modernize.” He continued, “If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter for the County or the Town, we are always short members and are always looking.”
