Big Lakes County is proudly served by volunteer firefighters from seven fire halls—Enilda, Grouard, Joussard, Faust, Kinuso, High Prairie, and Swan Hills. Our crews also work side-by-side with our First Nation and Métis partners through mutual aid agreements with Driftpile, Kapaweno, Sucker Creek, East Prairie, Peavine, and Swan River. Together, this strong network ensures fire protection and emergency response across our communities.

Have you ever considered joining a volunteer fire service? It’s more than just fighting fires—it’s about serving your community in moments of real need. Volunteer firefighters play a vital role in keeping small towns and rural areas safe, often being the first on scene during emergencies.

Joining the fire service is also a chance to:

  • Learn valuable skills and training
  • Build strong bonds with a dedicated team
  • Challenge yourself in new ways
  • Make a meaningful impact in your community
  •

We are reaching out to residents to better understand how we can strengthen our fire department staffing and to learn why some people may or may not have considered joining.
