Description:

For 50 years, farm families from northern and central Alberta communities have been recognized as the recipients of the BMO Farm Family Award. The Northern and Central Agricultural Service Boards select outstanding families who best represent values of the family farm within their rural community. The award honours both their farming business practices and community involvement.

As a member of the Big Lakes County Agricultural Community for over 60 years, the Pollack family has been an outstanding example of what this award was created to recognize.  From volunteering for their local community with the Big Meadow Community Hall Association, donating their time to sit on multiple producer boards for the betterment of all agricultural producers in the municipality, or the time given to the youth of our community sitting on committees, coaching minor hockey, swim club and Ukrainian dance, the Pollack family has given their heart, soul and passion to our local agricultural community.

The pride the family takes in maintaining their homestead and the continuation of their legacy through their children exemplifies the heart of why this award is given.  They continue to move forward as a unit, incorporating new and innovative agricultural practices in their production.  The future of the Pollack Family farm is bright, with all members contributing and the new venture in horticulture through Tanner and Christie Pollack and “Christies Greenhouse and Gardens”.

The local farm family is the engine that keeps our farm communities going.  The Pollack family demonstrates the highest ideals of what a farm family can accomplish.  On behalf of Big Lakes County Council and the Agricultural Advisor Committee, please accept this award with our thanks for your tireless contributions to agriculture and the Big Lakes County Agricultural Community.
