On May 31, 2018, the Honourable Brian Mason, Minister of Alberta Transportation advised Big Lakes County that three projects will be funded under the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP). STIP is a provincially funded grant program that provides financial assistance to rural and smaller urban municipalities to develop and maintain key local transportation infrastructure. The program consists of four components: Community Airport Program, Local Road Bridge Program, Resource Road Program, and Local Municipal Initiatives.
Big Lakes County is pleased to announce that projects BF# 76894 – Bridge Culvert Replacement located where Iroquois Creek crosses Snipe Lake Road south of Township Road 730 and BF# 80690 – Bridge Culvert Replacement located on Township Road 722 east of Range Road 180, will be funded under the Local Road Bridge Program. The High Prairie Airport Runway Overlay and Lighting Upgrades will also be funded under the Community Airport Program.
Big Lakes County will receive a grant of 75 percent of the estimated eligible project costs for the following projects:
• BF# 76894 – Bridge Culvert Replacement up to $525,000
• BF# 80690 – Bridge Culvert Replacement up to $431,250
• High Prairie Airport Runway Overlay up to $720,695

We were all extremely pleased to hear the good news and we cannot wait to begin these projects.
Our Council and administration will continue to lobby and work cooperatively with the governments to ensure that they are aware of the projects that we need for improving our services to the ratepayers of the County. We know that it is extremely important to be visible and be recognized by the governments as a progressive Municipality.”
The final grant amount will be based on the actual eligible costs at the time of the project completion.
