    Reporting directly to the Shop Manager, this role involves a variety of responsibilities primarily in shipping and receiving, yard and shop maintenance, and general support duties across multiple departments.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Load and unload incoming and outgoing freight efficiently and safely.
    • Package, label, and arrange for the pickup of outgoing cores and new part returns.
    • Verify incoming materials, equipment, and supplies against packing slips and assign materials to their proper yard location for inventory tracking.
    • Maintain accurate records of all received and dispatched items.
    • Ensure the yard remains organized, clean, and accessible by properly stacking inventory and regularly organizing daily-use materials.
    • Remove shipping debris from the yard site as needed to maintain cleanliness.
    • Assist the Agriculture Department with rental equipment handling, maintenance, and transport when required.
    • Manage winter snow removal in the yard, parking lot, and on exterior sidewalks, including those leading to the administration office.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly shop environment, including sweeping floors, emptying garbage bins, and organizing parts rooms.
    • Conduct monthly inspections of small tools and equipment, ensuring that everything is in good working condition.
    • Completion of Field Level Hazard Assessments, pre-trip and safe work plans are required.
    • Check and ensure the proper functioning of fire extinguishers on a regular basis.
    • Assist the Public Works Department as required.
    • Provide backup janitorial support at the Administration Building, covering duties when needed.
    • May be required to train for and participate in any emergency response declared by the         County.
    • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Shop Manager or higher authority.

    Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a current driver’s abstract.
    • Current criminal record check.
    • Basic knowledge of tools and machinery would be an asset
    • including email and internal messaging systems.

    Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:

    • Strong ability to understand and clearly communicate information, both written and verbally.
    • Basic computer skills are an asset for record-keeping and reporting.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate across departments.
    • Knowledge of maintenance and cleaning procedures, particularly in a high-traffic environment
    • Flexibility and adaptability in handling multiple tasks and varying workloads.
    • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as required.

    Health & Safety:

    • Must adhere to all government legislation, Big Lakes County policies, and safety procedures.
    • A commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment is essential, especially during fieldwork or when operating machinery.
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when required.
    • All employees are expected to follow Big Lakes County’s Health and Safety Policy.

    Working Conditions & Physical Environment:

    • Primarily based out of the High Prairie Public Works Storage Yard, Shop, with occasional field work.
    • Work will involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and precipitation.
    • Job may require lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 60lbs, with frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and sitting.
    • Regular exposure to outdoor elements, dust, and fumes in a dynamic environment.
    • Hazards include working near or on roadways, requiring heightened awareness and safety protocols.
    • Extensive use of and operation of a vehicle for transport and site inspections.

    Hours of Work:

    Monday-Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm
