Big Lakes County is seeking four (4) self-motivated individuals to join our team as seasonal scale operators. This position will involve 12-hour shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off, from approximately mid-May to September 2025.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate the scale to weigh trucks.
- Accurately record each truck’s weight before and after loading to calculate the amount of material being transported.
- Track and log weights for each load for billing, inventory, and regulatory purposes.
- Input weight data into the system or maintain logs for internal tracking and reporting to the municipality.
- Compile and submit daily reports at the end of each shift, including the weight of materials transported and any other relevant data.
- Ensure that weight tickets and documentation are completed and submitted to the appropriate department for processing and invoicing.
Education & Experience
- Minimum grade 12 diploma.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s.
- Must have a personal vehicle to commute to and from Drift Pile gravel pit.
- Provide current drivers abstract.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Basic arithmetic skills to calculate load weights, conversions, and verify accurate data.
- Record keeping skills
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
Working Conditions & Physical Environment
- Work may be performed in extreme temperatures and various outdoor conditions, including exposure to dust and fumes.
- Exposure to some outdoor conditions
- Long periods of sitting and standing.
- Shift work: 12-hour days, 4 days on, 4 days off rotation

- Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with County Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
- Required to wear correct P.P.E as per safe job procedures
- Must check in as per Working Alone legislation
- Must follow all safe job procedures
