    Big Lakes County is seeking an Animal Care Attendant to join their team. Working under the direction of the Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and refreshing animal enclosures and kennels. The Animal Care Attendant must be committed to ensuring the humane treatment of companion animals in the care of the County, while complying with organizational policy, procedure, and best practices. This role is responsible for ensuring high standards of animal care are maintained.


    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Wash dishes, clean litter pans, replenish pet supplies, food and litter.
    • Follow scheduled facility cleaning and disinfection procedures.
    • Ensure kennels, runs, and crates (indoor and outdoor) are kept clean and free of debris and excrement.
    • Carry out scheduled animal feeding, watering, exercise, bathing, grooming, and enrichment activities.
    • Support volunteers that work with animals and provide training where necessary.
    • Maintaining records of the health of animals (body weight, fecal consistency, noticeable symptoms, etc.).
    • Communicate with Animal Control Officer regarding animal health and behavioral issues.
    • Coordinating cleaning activities with the Animal Control Officer to ensure kennels are available as needed.
    • Promote a healthy team environment and maintain safe work practices, at all times.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Education & Experience

    • High school diploma.
    • Previous animal shelter experience would be considered an asset.
    • Will be required to pick up animal feces, PPE will be available on site.
    • Available to work on weekends.
    • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
    • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
    • Provide a current Criminal Record check.
    • Provide a current drivers abstract.

    Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

    • Must be able to lift, bend, squat, and stand throughout the shift.
    • Must be comfortable working in a noisy environment, exposed to dogs barking (hearing protection will be available).
    • Trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Must maintain confidentiality.
    • Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Must be team-oriented and able to work well independently.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Great communication skills, spoken and written.

    Hours Of Work

    15 hours per week (3hrs/day) Wednesday-Sunday
