Big Lakes County is proud to announce the arrival of its new Pumper-Rescue Fire Truck, which will be stationed at the Joussard Fire Hall. This addition to the Fire Services fleet was approved by Council as part of the 2022 budget and represents a significant investment in enhancing public safety and strengthening emergency response capabilities within the region.
“Big Lakes County is dedicated to investing in resources that protect and serve our community; understanding the importance of public safety for the well-being of our residents,” said Big Lakes County Reeve Tyler Airth. “The addition of this new fire truck is part of our strategic plan to provide quality services to our residents while being mindful of our budget. By making careful and thoughtful investments, we can meet the County’s long-term goals and ensure that our infrastructure and services remain reliable. Our continued focus on public safety is an important part of our vision to make Big Lakes County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Manufactured by Acres Industries of Manitoba, the new Pumper-Rescue truck was delivered to the Joussard Fire Hall on March 5th. It is set to serve the Joussard community and surrounding areas for the next 20 years. With a capacity to carry 3,700 liters of water and a pump capable of delivering 4,700 liters per minute, this truck is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, with a primary focus on rescue and structure fires.
“On behalf of Big Lakes County Fire Services, I would like to thank Council for their unwavering support in making this addition to our fleet possible,” said Big Lakes County Fire Chief Jason Cottingham. “This new truck is part of our strategy to replace aging equipment with a more versatile vehicle that offers multi-purpose capabilities. This not only improves our operational efficiency but also reduces our reliance on specialized units, ultimately enhancing our response times and capacity.”
Big Lakes County is actively recruiting volunteer firefighters to join the team. Those interested in making a difference in their community can contact Luci Martinson, Deputy Fire Chief, at 780-523-1547 or via email at [email protected].
