Big Lakes County is proud to announce that Tia Cooper, a dedicated resident of High Prairie and long-time healthcare professional, has been awarded the Big Lakes County Return of Service Bursary in the amount of $3,000.
Tia is currently enrolled in the Advanced Care Paramedic Diploma program through Northern Lakes College and has successfully completed the first year of her two-year program. A committed member of the High Prairie community since 2000, Tia brings over a decade of experience as a Primary Care Paramedic, with 11 years of service to Alberta Health Services across the North Zone.
“This bursary helps me continue my studies while managing the financial responsibilities that come with raising a young family and furthering my education,” said Cooper, who is also an active community volunteer. “Advancing my education allows me to better educate myself to help when the community calls 911, as well as opening the doors for a Community Care Paramedic position.”
Tia is also a mother to three young children under the age of five and volunteers with the High Prairie Minor Baseball and Minor Hockey Associations, where she serves as treasurer and secretary.
The Big Lakes County Return of Service Bursary is awarded annually to local students pursuing post-secondary education, with the intent to return and serve within the region upon graduation.
Reeve Tyler Airth expressed Council’s appreciation for residents like Tia, stating,
“We are proud to support Tia through the Return of Service Bursary. Her commitment to both professional development and community service is exactly what this program was designed to encourage. We look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in Big Lakes County.”
