Big Lakes County has received $12,000 from the ATCO Community Energy Fund. This funding will directly support our LED light conversion for five fire service buildings within our municipality. This project will improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and enhance the work environment for first responders, ultimately benefiting the entire community. The initiative aligns with the County’s mission of fostering a safe, resilient, and sustainable community, while also contributing to environmental responsibility and long-term cost savings.

ATCO is dedicated to creating a sustainable future for generations to come. Through their community investment initiatives, they support organizations on their energy transition journey, strengthening community safety and partnering with others to make a lasting impact. Since its inception in June 2023, the ATCO Community Energy Fund has supported municipalities, schools, non-profits, and charities with clean energy projects that promote sustainability.

Out of many applicants, only 12 were chosen to receive funding, and Big Lakes County is honoured to be among them.

“We are incredibly grateful to ATCO and the Community Energy Fund for their generous support of our LED light conversion project.” Said Big Lakes County Fire Chief, Jason Cottingham. “This grant funding will have a significant impact on our fire service buildings, improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs, which allows us to reinvest those savings into enhancing our emergency response capabilities. Not only will this project create a safer, better-lit environment for our first responders, but it will also contribute to our community’s sustainability efforts.”

This generous support allows Big Lakes County to further our commitment to creating a safer, more sustainable community for the well-being of all our residents.
