At a Special Council meeting held on March 17, 2023, Big Lakes County Council unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Jerry Gautreau as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Big Lakes County, effective April 5, 2023. Mr. Gautreau replaces Interim CAO, Mr. Roy Brideau.

Mr. Gautreau holds a National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration from the University of Alberta, a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of New Brunswick, and a Master’s in Business from the University of Toronto. He previously served as a Senior Advisor for the City of Chestermere, as well as Deputy Reeve for Rocky View County, where he was appointed as an alternate for the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board.

“Mr. Gautreau has years of experience in municipal government, and we look forward to hearing his new ideas that can help our County continue to grow and prosper,” said Big Lakes County Reeve Robert Nygaard. “On behalf of Big Lakes County Council, we warmly welcome Mr. Gautreau and look forward to working with him.”

The CAO is the only employee of Council, is the administrative lead of County operations, and is responsible for the County’s day-to-day activities.

“I look forward, over the coming months, to working with Council and Staff and meeting with the residents of Big Lakes County and hearing their ideas regarding the future of Big Lakes,” said Mr. Gautreau.
